Through Fire, Proved - 1 Peter 1:3-9

IMG_0175"What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole. I know how great this makes you feel, even though you have to put up with every kind of aggravation in the meantime. Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it’s your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory. You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don’t see him, yet you trust him—with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you’ll get what you’re looking forward to: total salvation" (1 Peter 1:3-9 MSG). 1 Peter 1:3-9 is a humble reminder that every Christian has been given a new life, a fresh start, through the death and resurrection of Jesus. But we are not just given a new life that turns everything perfect in our daily lives, not by a long shot! In fact, Peter is reminding us that our lives might even be harder because of it - that we all must be "put in the fire" so we may be "proved pure." Our faith will be tested with suffering so we may be "proved genuine." God the Father did not send Jesus to die so that we all can have easy lives. Quite the opposite! Jesus came to prove us and to give everyone who would accept Him a life of eternal significance filled with grace when we don't prove ourselves. This is not for our detriment, but our fulfillment. And in this proving we sing and dance and laugh God's praises! When this life passes away, we will be ready, proved pure, stripped of our earthy "gold" and left with "genuine faith." Think of it this way: through faith tested by fire our salvation is imminent. Praise God there is a reason for our earthly proving we experience and an end in sight. Amen!
