“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 Booker T. Washington was born a slave. In his autobiography, Up from Slavery, he tells a story about his brother: “The most trying ordeal that I was forced to endure as a slave boy. . . was the wearing of a flax shirt. In the portion of Virginia where I lived, it was common to use flax as part of the clothing for the slaves. That part of the flax from which our clothing was made was largely the refuse, which of course was the cheapest and roughest part. I can scarcely imagine any torture, except, perhaps, the pulling of a tooth, that is equal to that caused by putting on a new flax shirt for the first time. It is almost equal to the feeling that one would experience if he had a dozen or more chestnut burrs, or a hundred small pin-points, in contact with his flesh. . . . But I had no choice. I had to wear the flax shirt or none. . . . My brother John, who is several years older than I am, performed one of the most generous acts that I ever heard of one slave relative doing for another. On several occasions when I was being forced to wear a new flax shirt, he generously agreed to put it on in my stead and wear it for several days, till it was ‘broken in.’”
Jesus Christ has come along side of us to take on the roughness of the world on our behalf. He has put on our shirt — experienced what we experienced, walked where we have walked, and eased the pain of life. He is willing to place our suffering and pain on his own back.
No matter what you are facing, whether it’s temptation, weaknesses, or suffering Jesus can say “Been there… Dealt with that…I can help! ”
YES - TO THOSE…
• Who feel alone • Who are afraid • Who had a friend betray them • Who are tempted by (lust, money, popularity and power) • Who are weeping over the death of a loved one • Who had their best intentions misunderstood and twisted • Who are stressed out by the demands of life • Who are angry at the way the weak and powerless are treated • Who experience disappointments and set backs • Who had everyone walk out on them when they needed them the most • Who had a parent turn their backs on them • Who are in physical pain • Who have had family members think they are crazy • Who have had their name and reputation slander by other people • Whose lives seemed to be filled with sorrow and grief • Who don’t have a lot of money or material things • Who find it so hard to do the right thing and to follow God’s will
Jesus says; “Been there… Dealt with that…I can help! ”
The Word became flesh. He stands here today with the smile of love and arms extended. He is the God who became real so that we could experience his transforming love. Jesus is not just a truth to believe in, he is a person to be experienced. Jesus is God and He has purchase eternal life for us.
Salvation was accomplished two thousand years ago. Jesus lived and died for you and I. There is a song that says Jesus bowed His head and died. He gave up His spirit, voluntarily. He designed the plan to save you and I and with His death He completed it. Redemption for you and I. He chose to die than spend eternity without us.
Believe in the Son and live. This is the purpose of the Gospel of John. This is the purpose of John 1:14 - “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
It is DONE! D-O-N-E.
It is my prayer that as you read these posts you were able to see Jesus as He is. Jesus is real -- THE WORD OF GOD BECAME A PERSON. All that He did was so that you and I would have an example of our victory in Christ. Our big brother is our example. Salvation belongs to each of us.
Since The Beginning He has been The Antidote offered to us in The Exchange in which He took upon Himself The Verdict becoming The Light that illuminated our darkness, and gave us The Life that He purchased at the cross through His blood in The Completion of His mission! ~Elizabath Talbot ~
