“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see” (Hebrews 11:1). Is there something you have been praying for that hasn’t happened yet? Maybe you have been praying that God heals your body. Have you been praying that God increases your finances or even that a loved one turns his or her life over to Jesus? Maybe you have been on your best behavior hoping that God will do these things if He is pleased with you. God tells us that what pleases Him is seeking Him and having faith that He will fulfill His promises to us.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
Faith is a decision to believe God's Word, not your feelings.
When everything around us is showing the opposite of what we’re trying to have faith for, it can be difficult to not waiver in our thinking. How often do you spend time thinking negative thoughts about the circumstances that you want to change? Instead of focusing on your feelings, start making an effort to re-train your mind to think about what God has to say about your situation. It can feel strange and sometimes overwhelming at first to speak faith into a situation when you’re used to complaining about it. It’s going to take some practice, but it will cause your faith to grow.
2 Corinthians 4:13 says, “Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke, “ WE ALSO BELIEVE, AND SO WE ALSO SPEAK,”. We need to find out what the bible says about our circumstances and speak this over our lives. For instance, if you are believing for healing in your body, study the bible to see what God has to say about healing. Pray that the Holy Spirit shows you some verses to stand on, and then plant them in your heart!
Can you see what you are having faith for?
Part of faith is seeing in your mind what you are believing God for. If you are wanting God to help you with your quick temper, what would that “look” like once you had it? You might imagine yourself keeping calm during situations where you currently lose your temper. If you are believing God for healing, picture what your life would be like once the healing has come! Faith is acting on the Word of God as if it’s true and seeing the answer before it comes.
- What does God say in His Word about what you are believing for?
- What have you been saying about your circumstances? Do you need to change the way that you have been speaking about them?
- Are you willing to make a commitment to trust God and believe His Word?
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for giving me Your Word. Please help me to develop my faith while I make a commitment to trust You and speak to my situation in faith. I am making the decision to believe You and Your Word and stand in faith. In Your Precious Name I pray, Amen.
