"Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees, for she said, 'Have I also here seen Him who sees me?'" Genesis 16:13; NIV There are days in a woman's life when she feels invisible. The wedding has passed, the children are born, and the in-laws and family now only visit on the holidays. The hours of house cleanings, shopping trips, and school meetings run into each other. There are days, I'm sure, when we women have looked around and asked the question, "What is this all for?"
Knowing that God is always with us we gear up for another day, but deep within the heart we sometimes can feel invisible. Reading this passage about Hagar filled my heart. She called God "the One who sees me." God saw her in the desert; a place that sounds lonely. There in her desert the Lord saw her in her need. Whether loneliness, fear, and anxiety about the future, the Lord is the One who sees me.
There are days and weeks we spend in a desert. Knowing that God sees me where I am and understands even when I think no one does, is so comforting.
Prayer: Lord help me to know that You see me where I am in the midst of my day.
