The Drive

Most of the time when Travis needs to move the cattle, all he has to do is say”come on girls”. They usually all come running. A few stragglers as he calls them may need a little extra encouragement to come through the gate and join the rest of the herd. Sometimes there are occasions when the whole herd does not want to be moved( usually when they have gotten into a field they are not suppose to be in) or he has to just get up a few calves or cows. In this case he needs to drive them. I know you are probably imagining the old west cattle drives with the rebel yells and horses and cowboys and cattle dogs. Maybe some gun smoke theme music in the background….uh, not at all how it is on our farm. It is just Travis and his calming voice and gentle movements (until he gets aggravated). For the most part he gently guides them where he wants them. His experience has taught him how to read and respond to each movement and hesitation. He has studied them and knows their behavior. Most of the time he knows what they are going to do before they do. I have seen him many times go one on one with a 2000 pound bull. When you love something and are dedicated to it and invest your time in it, you get to know it and know what drives it.

Psalm 139:3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, and You are acquainted with all my ways.

God knows you inside and out. He knows the choices you are going to make before you make them and understands why you make them. He has invested in you and is dedicated to you. He even knows your excuses before you waste your time coming up with them. He knows what drives you. He is not shocked by what you have done and doesn't  love you any less. It is His perfect knowledge and love of man that sparked His choice to send His Son to redeem the mess we are. What drives Him? When our mess becomes His Beauty. His love for us drove Him straight to the cross.
