No child born to the inhabitants of the Earth is spiritual dressed or equipped with righteous self-achievement. Every child is born naked, not just of physical clothing but that of Godliness. The virtues of righteousness are not included in our DNA, or in our Genes. These Godly attributes cannot be acquired through human strength or effort or financial ability; man is born lost into a world of darkness and despair. We are surrounded by a level of wickedness that goes beyond our cognitive ability to perceive this lying darkness; blinded from what is wicked and what is not our emotions and personal feelings rage a deafening battle with our senses blocking out all spiritual light. What is doubly tragic is "Although they know God's just requirement-that those who practice such things deserve to die-they not only do these things but even applaud others who practice them." (Romans 1:32)
God did not leave us defenseless for He knows our weakness and loves us in spite of our sinfulness. God came Himself in Jesus Christ to take the penalty of our sins by paying for our penalty of sin on the Cross.
So what now? Does God's Grace mean that we can continue to live as we always did? What does God require?
"... as God's chosen ones, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Put up with one another and forgive each other if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, you also should forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which ties everything together in unity. Let the peace of Christ also rule in your hearts, to which you were called in one body, and be thankful."(Colossians 3:12-15)
To clothe yourself means to "put-on" what we lack; what is amazing is that Jesus Christ confirms our ability to "put-on" His spiritual dress; this spiritual dress is obtainable for everyone. There are no excuses; do not be found spiritual indecent. Dress yourself with the righteousness of Jesus Christ through a humble heart; this spiritual dress, the righteousness of Jesus Christ, is not automatic. It must be "put-on" by every believer daily.
So what are the articles of spiritual clothing that we need to put on?
First and foremost:
"...get rid of anger, wrath, malice, slander, obscene language from your mouth, and all such sins. Do not lie to one another, for you have stripped off the old man with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new man, which is being renewed into full knowledge according to the image of the one who created it." (Colossians 3:8-10)
Therefore, as God's chosen ones, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with:
* Compassion * Kindness * Humility * Meekness * Patience * Forgiveness * Unity * Thankfulness * Hope * Faith * Trust * Love
Put up with one another and forgive each other if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, you also should forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which ties everything together in unity. Let the peace of Christ also rule in your hearts, to which you were called in one body, and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you with all richness and wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and singing to God with thankfulness in your hearts. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. " (Colossians 3:12-17)
"The person who is greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." (Matthew 23:11-12)
