As preparation for labor and delivery I decided to memorize scripture. I wanted to meditate on God's word and find peace in his promises. I memorized Psalm 121 when I was pregnant. I wrote it on index cards and taped them all around our house (our garage door, bathroom mirror, etc.). It wasn't until after Elizabeth was born that I realized God brought this scripture to me not for labor and delivery, but for Elizabeth's first few months. As a new mom I constantly worried! 'Is she too warm? Too cold? Can she breathe?' But there is no point in worrying. Easier said then done, I know! I tried my best to trust God instead of fear the worst. I decided when I went to bed at night I would recite Psalm 121 over her. Although I couldn't be there 24/7 to watch her every move, God could! He never sleeps nor slumbers and he watches over his kids.
Here are some other scriptures that I memorized:
I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
For God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
I lift my eyes up to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip - he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over your - the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm - he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalm 121
You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3
For you, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor you will surround him with a shield. Psalm 5:21
