Is He Lord? I’ve struggled trying to figure out what it really means to confess Jesus as Lord? And what is the difference with Lord and Savior? And more than just the questions I have, but the way I teach this to my children.
In my Mom’s study at my church we are doing a study called “God’s Portrait of a Beautiful Woman” and we have touched on this subject. We’ve been examining our relationship with Him as a painter may examine his art work. What canvas does he use, brush, type of paints? And once he has chosen all of these things, what lighting does he paint in, where does he showcase his work at?
Lord to me means the type of relationship you have with the Son and who exactly is the Son. I can sum it up best this way: Jesus is my Master (who He is within my relationship with Him).
Jesus is Yaweh God (who He is for the world).
We are God’s portrait, one explicitly painted to show exactly what God wants to show the world. But, can we show the world the true beauty of the artwork if He is not our Lord? To be Lord is to acknowledge Him as our sustenance, as our painter. Confessing Him as Lord says to the world, you have no hold on me, I am a slave to the One Almighty Lord.
Believing in Jesus is wonderful, and it starts an intimate relationship with Him, but as James explains, even the demons believe and shudder, does that also mean that He is Lord of their life? No, because Lord signifies Master and He most certainly is not Master of their life.
Master means He has power over me, power of life and death. He has this power over the entire world.
Most of my life Jesus simply stood as my Savior, but I stopped there. I held Him like a rabbit foot, something I thought I could pull out when I needed Him.
This was wrong, and if you are one of those people as I was, I urge you to repent, transform, and confess Him as your Lord. Give Him dominion over your entire life.
Walk according to His ways.
When you fall, let it be Him who lifts you back up.
This has been a part of my life and one that I strive to instill in my children every day. I must look back at my life every day and see that I was not willing to allow Him as Ruler when I should have. I pray that this is not the case for you. I pray that He is your Sustainer, your Leader. I pray that He has dominion over every aspect of your life!
“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6 & 7
