Some days I struggle to find beauty inside however hard I try. Some days in particular I am weighed down by all the impossible, unachieveable, disasterous, painful and exhausting parts of my life. I don't know about you, but when I'm having one of those days my shoulders droop and I find myself looking down. All the way down. Over the last week, we have been thinking about beauty. How to have a beautiful mind and how the little things you do can make life beautiful for other people. So let\'s go back to the advice Paul gave to his friends on how to achieve lasting inner beauty.
'Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.' Philippians 4 v8, The Message
So what do you do on days when you struggle to find beauty at all? I was having one of those days, I wasn't praying or studying my Bible for help or in church praising my way through (!) I was doing the dishes. I heard two words, clear as day - 'Look up!'. When the Lord speaks He never seems to waste words. Just His voice, two words 'Look Up!'
I've thought about it a lot since. It took physical effort to pull my head up, to look where He told me to look - right at Him. To stop looking at my miserable day and focus on Him. So here's something to try. If you fail to find the good in the day sometimes and you are exhausted by thinking about ways to make other people happy, here's what to do. Look right at Him and keep looking.
'Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest.' Matt 11 v28, The Message
