"Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, My way is hidden from Jehovah and my judgment has passed over from my God? Have you not known? Have you not heard, that the everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not grow weak nor weary? There is no searching of His understanding." (Isaiah 40:27-28) Verse 28 has been one of my favorite verses for a very long time. God is never sleepy or tired, which means that I can come to him whenever I want to. Great, isn’t it? If we place the verse in its context, we can see that there is a reason why verse 28 tells us about a God who is always fully alert.
Like many of us, Israel was exalting themselves before God. They believed that He did not pay attention to them. There were so many problems and the world seemed so unrighteous. God had probably fallen asleep or his eyes were just looking somewhere else, and as a consequence many bad things took place in their lives. They also used it as an excuse for sin; after all, if God did not pay attention, they would receive no judgment for their deeds.
What was Gods response to this way of thinking? Through the prophet he told the people that the almighty, the creator of everything… he is not sleeping. He is not even tired. He is above and beyond everything, and has an understanding impossible for any human being to grasp. He sees everything, he is control of everything, and even when we do not understand him, we can trust that his understanding is higher than ours.
So don’t think God has left you. Do not think he is not paying attention. He is there, watching out for every one of us!
