Burdens Too Heavy To Bear

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, My dear friends, are there times that you feel weary?  Are there days that your burdens are so great that all you want to do is pull the blankets over your head, shut your eyes tight and go back to sleep in the hopes that when you awake, your burdens will be gone, and your heart will be filled with joy instead of sorrow?

and I will give you rest.

When we experience these times of despair we need to run to Jesus, our only hope.  We need to do the exact opposite of what we feel like doing.  We need to get out of bed and go to our closet to pray.  We need to seek out those precious promises of hope that our Bibles are filled with.  We need to remember that our hope and joy are not found in our circumstances, but in our God.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

James 1:2 says, "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience." Trials will come, and they may seem like burdens too heavy to bear, but God has told us that they are for our good - to make us more into the likeness of His Son.  Let us take heart, God is working in us for good.  Will we trust Him?  Will we submit to His authority?  Will we willingly surrender our will to His?  Will we take His yoke and learn from Him?

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

Hebrews 4:15 reminds us that Jesus can sympathize with our weakness.  He was tempted in all points - yet never sinned.  Let us run to Him for help.  We need to battle our way out of despair.  There are several ways that we can do this.

One way that always helps me is to worship, I put on praise music to set my thinking right.  Put on "The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness."  Isaiah 61:3

I pray.  Sometimes all I can muster is, "Oh God, help me."  He knows my heart and it is enough, He is pleased that I am seeking Him and trusting in Him for deliverance.

I also read the Word.  Reminding myself of God's precious promises is a great help.  There have been times I have pasted Scripture verses all over the house to remind me of His promises.  When I put my eyes on Him and not my circumstances, there is peace and rest.

My dear friends, let us take every care and every burden to the One who is able to deliver us out of every trial.  Our God is faithful!

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path."  Proverbs 3:5-6

The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe."  Proverbs 18:10

"I have set the Lord always before me.  Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken."  Psalm 16:8

"Cast your burden on the Lord and He shall sustain you, He will never permit the righteous to be moved."  Psalm 55:22

"Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."  1 Peter 5:7

"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You."  Isaiah 26:3

"In my distress I cried to the Lord, and He heard me."  Psalm 120:1

"I will lift up my eyes to the hills - from whence comes my help?  My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth."  Psalm 121:1-2
