Blogging Your Christian Dating

Being a single Christian is hard work. To urge to just fall in with the world, to stop waiting on the Lord to find your mate and go looking for yourself, is nearly overwhelming. The world tells us that we have to meet out potential spouses at bars, clubs, or parties. We must drink and carouse or risk staying single forever. As usual, the world is wrong and the Lord is right. “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalms 37:4 NIV

But how can we encourage and support each other during our struggles and trials? When we are feeling down or hopeless and think we’ll forever be lonely? Well, one thing writers can do is blog about their experience. Some Christians, especially ones that have not grown up with a Christian background, have difficulty with the idea of dating in a pure, wholesome way. In a culture that pushes one night stands, it is no wonder. Some things bloggers can do to help are:

  • Warn believers against putting themselves in compromising situations
  • Suggest wholesome date ideas/destinations
  • Share warning signs of trouble
  • Caution against dating unbelievers
  • Advise on praying for God’s guidance and discernment
  • Suggest ways to meet potential spouses
  • Remind believers that the point of dating is finding a spouse
  • Give tips on what to look for in a potential mate
  • Illustrate what Godly love should look like
  • Remind that marriage is forever, so be certain

There are many more things that single Christian bloggers can do to share their experiences and hard-earned learning. Remember that the Lord commands us to:

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:23-25 NIV
