Anxiety Can be a Heavy Burden

clip-art-precious-moment-671017Anxiety can be a heavy burden, but as the song states, “I don’t know about tomorrow;…..I don’t worry o’er the future, For I know what Jesus said. And today I’ll walk beside Him, For He knows what lies ahead.” We need to remember on a daily basis that God knows what is ahead. Although it’s easier said then done, we don’t need to worry about our future when we walk with Him. In Isaiah 41:10 the Bible says. “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness”. What is anxiety?  The definition of anxiety is a “feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome”.  Anxiety may present itself as worry or fear about an impending situation.  It sticks in your mind and it begins to take over your life if you don’t control it.  Not a pleasant place to be!

Over the last few months there have been numerous events that have caused anxiety in my life.  I had to go to work one Saturday morning.  The only Saturday I ever have to work during the year.  I was only there for an hour when my heart started to pound and everything started to go black.  I didn’t quite pass out, but pretty close.  I left work right away and went to a local walk in clinic and it was determined I was having an anxiety attack.  Me?  How could I be having an anxiety attack?  I realized that  all of the “bad” situations occurring in my life had taken control of me….I was not in control of them!

I took the time to step back and determine that I was trying to control the things which I have absolutely no control over……but God does.  I was trying to rely on my own strength rather then upon God and His Word.  Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

I Know Who Holds Tomorrow Lyrics – Alison Krauss

I don’t know about tomorrow; I just live from day to day.Bible answers I don’t borrow from its sunshine For its skies may turn to grey. I don’t worry o’er the future, For I know what Jesus said. And today I’ll walk beside Him, For He knows what lies ahead. Many things about tomorrow I don’t seem to understand But I know who holds tomorrow And I know who holds my hand.

Every step is getting brighter As the golden stairs I climb; Every burden’s getting lighter, Every cloud is silver-lined. There the sun is always shining, There no tear will dim the eye; At the ending of the rainbow

Where the mountains touch the sky.I don’t know about tomorrow; It may bring me poverty. But the one who feeds the sparrow, Is the one who stands by me. And the path that is my portion May be through the flame or flood; But His presence goes before me And I’m covered with His blood.

God Wants us to be Free from Worry

God doesn’t want us to be burdened with worry. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

As we read and study God’s Word we develop an understanding of God’s love for us. There is absolutely nothing in this world, no financial burden, family crisis, illness, that can come between us and God’s Love. “38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38, 39) He loves us so much, we can cast our anxiety upon Him, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (1 Peter 5:7 )

Giving our Cares to God

I’m sure most of us have situations that arise daily that we can cast upon Him. We need to replace our anxiety and tension with prayer and reading His Word. I feel one of the best verses to help us with this is in Philippines 4:6-7, “ Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” We need to let our requests be made known onto God through prayer. As we learn to take God at His Word, and walk in his path and trust in his strength to do all things our anxieties will drift away. The stressfulness will be replaced with peace and rest.

If you are feeling uneasy and anxious about something that you have no control over, pray and give it to God. Read His Word and your heart will be filled with God’s love. ” I don’t know about tomorrow, but I know who holds my Hand.” Please give it a try!
