“Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!"-Revelation 19:6-7
Some days I really, really miss my kids being babies. Some days I miss them being toddlers. Some days I miss them being little kids. Don't miss them being middle-schoolers! Do miss them being teenagers. Well, at least two of them. One is still 16.
Some days I wish I could go back in time and relive those days. I would love to hold my babies while they sleep. I would love for them to run up to me and give me a great, big hug. I would love for Dillon to come to me one more time and ask me, "Will you scratch my head?" I would love to read them one more bedtime story. I would love to watch them run down the stairs on Christmas morning one more time to see what Santa brought.
Sometimes I catch myself wanted this too much and not enjoying who they have become. Sometimes I don't spend enough time trying to get to know them better. Sometimes I spend so much time on praying for what I think needs "fixin" that I don't thank God for who they have become. They are mature, well-adjusted, godly young adults. God does still have much work to do on them and through them, but that is true for all of us.
I have noticed that we do this at Christmas time, too. We put Jesus back in the manger as a baby. We focus on how small and cute and innocent He was. We focus on the manger, and the shepherds and the wise men and the star. We do need the remember these things and understand their significance.
But, Jesus is all grown up now! He sits on His throne beside His Father as King of kings and Lord of lords waiting to come and take His bride to leave with Him. In His great mercy He is waiting for all who will accept Him as their personal Savior to do so. He did come for all and He knows who all are going to accept Him. But, He is not going to wait forever. He is coming soon. I am waiting for Him to be here any moment. He is not a baby in the manger anymore. Let's not forget that and let's remember to worship Him for who He is was, is and is to come.
Father, Thank you that Jesus is coming back in all His Glory as the great warrior! Victory is already His. The final battle will ens all evil. Praise be to You!
